Capitol Hill Updates

  • In a stunning rebuke of Barack Obama, who, as recently as a few weeks ago, had requested an up-or-down vote on raising the already-bloated national debt ceiling of $14.6 trillion by a whopping $2 trillion  --  which would get the president past his reelection campaign  --  the United States House of Representatives this evening voted by an overwhelming majority of 318 to 97 to reject the debt ceiling increase. Every single Republican voted against Obama's demand to raise the federal debt ceiling.  Indeed, Obama also lost almost half of his Democrats in the House....
  • The Republican-controlled House of Representatives will vote around 6 tonight to raise  --  or NOT  --  the debt ceiling by over 2 trillion dollars to a gargantuan $16 trillion of federal debt.  For Republicans, it is a DUH! moment.  It is a no-brainer vote.  A whopping 70% of Republicans in America do not want the debt ceiling raised under any condition. Some 8% of Republicans join a majority of Democrat voters in wanting the debt ceiling raised as Barack Obama wants.  Eliminating the undecided vote, a huge majority of Americans (47% to 19%) do not...
  • The leader of the Democrats in the Senate, Harry Reid from Nevada, continued his cynical political tactics yesterday to ensure his party maintains control of the Senate during next year's elections.  He forced every single one of his Democrats  --  and Socialist Bernard Sanders acquiesced  --  to vote against Barack Obama's budget for 2012 which includes at least a trillion dollars of tax increases.  Meanwhile, every single Democrat, except Senator Jim Webb (VA), voted against the responsible Republican budget to cut over $6 trillion from Obama's budget. ...
  • The contrast could not be more sharp.  Following Barack Obama's disgraceful attacks last week on Israel and his support for Palestinian policies which threaten to destroy Israel, Obama's opponents in the Republican Party have continued their long-time and very strong support for Israel, and most especially for its courageous Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. For example, the Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell from Kentucky had these remarks about Israel and Prime Minister Netanyahu: “Israel is of course a great friend and an ally to the United States, and the Prime Minister...
  • After passing the worst piece of legislation in American history into law, ObamaCare, in the Democrat-controlled 111th Congress two years ago, the Obama administration is now granting thousands of waivers to its favorite supporters  --  many of them unions  --  to avoid having to abide by the onerous mandates of ObamaCare.  Indeed, it was reported just this week that the former Democrat Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, who almost single-handedly crammed ObamaCare down the throats of an unwilling American people, received a whopping 20% of the...
  • $3.93 per gallon of gasoline is not exactly a great way to begin the summer driving season beginning on Memorial Day.  If Democrats feel smug about the 6-cent decrease in the price of a gallon of gasoline recently, they shouldn't be.  If the price is above $2.50 per gallon by next year's election, Democrats will feel the price of gasoline at the polls.  It was a $1.83 per gallon when Barack Obama was inaugurated. The Republican Senate Leader, Mitch McConnell from Kentucky, blasted the Democrats yesterday for their lack of a real plan to do something about the gargantuan price...
  • It was been 387 days since Barack Obama and the idealogues in his administration shut down off-shore drilling on a very wide-scale in the United States.  As a result, the cost of a gallon of gasoline has sky-rocketed under Obama's administration. The American people overwhelmingly elected Republicans last November to take control of the United States House of Representatives and to do something about the dismal economy and about rising gasoline prices.  Yesterday, the Republicans in the House responded and passed a bill entitled "Putting the Gulf Back to Work Act" which would end...
  • When the Democrats took control of Congress with overwhelming numbers and the White House in 2008, the price of gasoline was about 45% of the price that it is now.  Indeed, on Barack Obama's inauguration day, the price of a gallon of gasoline was only $1.86.  It is now a whopping $4.00 per gallon and in many places in America, gasoline costs $5.00 per gallon.  This is from an administration whose president said that gasoline prices must necessarily rise during his administration.  This is one of the very rare promises Barack Obama has kept. Obama's Energy Secretary...
  • Until the Tea Party and other pro-family supporters  --  who dumped six Democrat Senators from office last year  --  get rid of more pro-abortion Senators, mostly from the Democrat Party, there will be little chance of seeing commonsense legislation overwhelmingly supported by the American people passed such as H.R.3, the "No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act" which passed the United States House of Representatives by the huge margin of 251-175 yesterday.  However, there are a group of pro-life Senators such as Republican Senators Orrin Hatch (UT), Tom Coburn (OK),...
  • The former Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee in the United States House of Representatives, the late Congressman Henry Hyde, Republican from Illinois  --  and the pro-life champion of Congress since the most infamous decision by a Supreme Court in American history, Roe v. Wade in 1973  --  introduced legislation shortly after this abominable decision to ameliorate what the court had done. The Hyde Amendment was passed on September 30, 1976 by the House of Representatives, by a margin of 207-167 which barred the use of certain federal funds to pay for abortions....
