Capitol Hill Update: Senate Democrat Leader Harry Reid Has Incredible Chutzpah

Senator Harry Reid, leader of the left-wing Democrats in the United States Senate, must be frightened about his reelection next year and about the several Republican challengers in Nevada who have a good-size lead over him in the polls.  He is desperate to get some kind of ObamaCare passed before Christmas and he cannot find the 60 votes to get a Senate floor vote on this socialized medicine scheme.

Because of pressures like these, or out of pure stupidity, he went on the Senate floor on Monday and with some of the greatest chutzpah ever seen on the Senate floor insulted the Republican Senators and the Republican Party.  Indeed, Republican Senator Saxby Chambliss from Georgia said apparently Senate Majority Leader Reid is beginning "to crack."

Senator Reid first complained that the Republicans were trying to stop the ObamaCare bill because all they can do is say no.  Reid then pretended that socialized medicine is something the American people want and the Republicans are trying to stop the bill from passing.

Reid said on the Senate floor on Monday:  "Instead of joining us on the right side of history, all the Republicans can come up with is, 'Slow down, stop everything, let's start over.'  If you think you've heard these excuses before, you're right.  When this country belatedly recognized the wrongs of slavery, there were those who dug in their heels and said, 'Slow down, it's too early, things aren't bad enough.'"

Left-wingers such as Harry Reid firmly believe in the policy that the ends justify the means.  If outright lies about an issue will help the Democrats win, then that is what they are going to do.  No wonder, so many people are now beginning to call Reid's party the "Evil Party."

The reality of slavery and segregation in these United States of America, is that it was the Republican Party which ended slavery.  It was the Republicans in Congress who gave President Lyndon Baines Johnson the votes he needed to get his landmark legislation  --  the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act  --  passed and signed into law.

The facts for the probable soon-to-be ex-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Democrat from Nevada.

*  Republican President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation Act freeing slaves and was the president who prosecuted a Civil War to end slavery in all of America.

*  Democrat Senator Strom Thurmond led a record-breaking filibuster against the Civil Rights Act of 1957 and former Democrat Senator Majority Leader Robert Byrd, still in the Senate, was a former Ku Klux Klan leader.

*  80% of the Senators who threatened to filibuster the 1964 Civil Rights Act were Democrats.  Nearly one-third of the Democrats in the United States Congress, as a whole, actually voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and therefore wanted to keep segregation in place in America.

*  On the other hand, over 80% of Republicans voted to end segregation in America by voting for the Civil Rights Act of 1964.  Most of the other Republicans were those who were concerned about states' rights.

Other examples of why the Republican Party is on the right side of history when it comes to slavery and segregation and establishing equal rights for women and blacks in this country are far too numerous to mention here.

What Senate Democrat Leader Reid has done is to outrage the nation.    Senator Orrin Hatch, Republican from Utah said about the Democrat leader's remarks:  "This is extremely offensive.  It's language that should never be used, never be used."   Senator Coburn said that he was personally insulted by Reid's remarks as were the vast majority of Republicans, and indeed Americans in general.

What Harry Reid should do, to find a little peace for himself and his party and for the nation around Christmas time, is to send his Senators home to celebrate Christmas with their families and friends (and any other holidays) and to return next year to work with the Republicans in Congress to find a commonsense solution to the few problems which Americans are experiencing with the greatest health care system the world has ever known.  That would be a great gift from Senator Reid to the American people.
