Capitol Hill Update: Tim Ryan, the fake pro-life Democrat

A Democrat congressman from the moderate/conservative 17th District of Ohio, Tim Ryan, a 4th term Catholic, who has pretended to be a pro-lifer to get himself reelected, is now the rage amongst the pro-death movement, commonly called the abortion-rights movement.  There is the recent infamous photo, widely distributed, of the radical left-wing and pro-abortion Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro from Connecticut, snuggling up to his face with a smug look which says "We captured yet another naive Blue Dog Democrat with our cunning pro-choice words."

The nation's premier pro-life organization, the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) in Washington D.C. issued a release entitled:  "NRLC announces 'Tim Ryan, pro-life impersonator' webpage."   In it, the NRLC condemns Congressman Ryan for "(undermining) the efforts of the pro-life members of the U.S. House of Representatives (of both parties) who are seeking to remove pro-abortion provisions from the health care bills being pushed by the Obama White House."

Here are some of Democrat Congressman Tim Ryan's votes (or refusal to vote at all on tough issues) on the abortion issue as scored by the Christian Coalition of America in its 2008 Congressional Scorecard.  On June 6, 2007, Congressman Tim Ryan refused to vote for or against the Human Cloning Prohibition Act (H.R. 2560) which lost by a margin of 213-204.

On the vote on S. 5, the "Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act" which would have allowed the destruction of human embryonic stem cell research, Congressman Ryan was yet again nowhere to be found.  He missed this vote on June 7, 2007.

During an abortion vote on July 19, 2007 during which Congressman Tim Ryan actually did show up to vote, H.R. 3043, a bill sponsored by Congressman Mike Pence, R-IN, which would have prevented use of American tax dollars to go to Planned Parenthood, Congressman Ryan voted NO on this commonsense bill.

So this supposed pro-lifer as advertised in his congressional campaigns in his moderate/conservative district in Ohio received a grand total of 10% in the Christian Coalition of America (CCA) 2008 Congressional Scorecard.  In other words, he agreed with the CCA's position only 10% of the time!

The National Right to Life Committee said in its press release that, although Ohio Democrat Congressman Tim Ryan's voting record in recent years "is NOT pro-life, he continues to impersonate a pro-life lawmaker in order to undercut genuine pro-life initiatives in Congress."

As an example of Congressman Tim Ryan's pro-abortion record, the NRLC pointed out that H.R. 3312, "known alternatively as the Title X Family Planning Services Act of 2009 and as the Preventing Unintended Pregnancies, Reducing the Need for Abortion, and Supporting Parents Act, was introduced in late July by Congressional Pro-Life Caucus member Tim Ryan (D-OH) and Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus member Rosa DeLauro (D-CT). The bill seeks to provide funding to reduce the number of unintended pregnancies through greater access to contraceptives and comprehensive sex education, as well as to enhance access to prenatal care and support for new parents."
