Okay...Now What?

On November 4th, a small majority of voters elected Barak Obama as the 44th President of the United States. Mr. Obama was definitely not my choice, and my reasons were many for opposing him. From his position on abortion, to gay marriage to the possibility of changing the makeup of the Supreme Court, his candidacy troubled me greatly, and now after the election I am even more troubled. So what should my response now be according to scripture? 1 Timothy 2:1-2 says..” I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” (NIV) I will be obedient as a follower of Christ and pray for the President-elect and trust God for His divine guidance and protection for our nation. I will also pray that God by His Spirit, will change the heart and mind of Mr. Obama and that he will truly accept Christ as his Savior and follow the scriptures as he makes decisions as president.

That being said, as a follower of Christ, I must also be vigilant to watch and listen to what comes out of Washington and local Government concerning policies that are contrary to God’s Word or threaten our religious freedoms. If need be, I will lift my voice in opposition to policies that negatively impact the right to life of the unborn, the redefining of traditional marriage and the protections guaranteed by our Constitution for freedom to exercise our faith without fear. Our responsibility as blood washed Christians to be ambassadors of the Kingdom must cause us to be pro-active and informed. Christians are not called to be “defensive”, but OFFENSIVE against the assault of the enemy. The America we love so dearly was founded on Biblical principles and our freedoms were won with the blood and sacrifice of many who gave all to form this great nation. God blessed us then, and we walk in His blessing today, but my fear is that our nation is straying from her foundations of faith, and we have begun to slip farther and farther from what our founders hoped we would become.

So, Christian…YES pray for the President –elect. Pray for our Government and our leaders. Pray for Gods will to be done in America, but also be VIGILANT and on guard for the subtle attacks of the enemy on our freedoms and our most Holy faith. Be active and alert as a watchman on the wall. Do not be afraid to lift your voice and speak out for we are God’s ambassadors. It is up to us, with God’s anointing and wisdom to protect and defend this nation.
