FINALIZING THE DEFENSE BILL

Providing for the common defense is one of the greatest responsibilities Congress has. On Tuesday, we will vote on the National Defense Authorization Act of 2018 conference report (H.R. 2810). This bill:

 

  • Provides a 2.4 percent pay raise for our troops 
  • Fully funds $8 billion for cyber operations supporting the Department of Defense’s cyberspace capabilities and strategies
  • Provides a 16 percent increase for U.S. Cyber Command
  • $4 billion to support missile defense enhancements to counter the North Korean threat


 

COMMITTEE ACTIVITY TO WATCH

 

House Financial Services Committee markup of 23 bills including provisions to strengthen the JOBS Act that increases access to capital for new and emerging businesses. 

 

House Natural Resources Committee oversight hearing on financial accountability in territories’ disaster recovery efforts.

 

House Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee joint hearing on regulatory reform task forces progress, with testimony from representatives of the Departments of Agriculture, Education, and Health and Human Services.
