House Passes Six-Month Continuing Resolution

WASHINGTON, DC – House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) released the following statement today after the House of Representatives approved a six-month continuing resolution (CR) consistent with the spending cap level in the Budget Control Act:

“Now it’s time for President Obama and Senate Democrats to work with Republicans to avert the ‘fiscal cliff’ by stopping the tax hikes that threaten our economy and replacing the ‘sequester’ that threatens our national security.”

NOTE: Overall the CR (H.J.Res. 117) brings total regular and disaster discretionary spending to $52 million below last year.  The House passed a bipartisan bill on August 1 that would stop all of President Obama’s tax hikes, and approved legislation on May 10 that would replace his ‘sequester’ with common-sense spending cuts and reforms.  The Democratic-controlled Senate has done neither.  You can find a full list of House-passed jobs bills awaiting action by Senate Democrats here.
