Speaker Boehner: Moody’s Warning Shows Urgent Need for Action on Pro-Growth Tax Reform, Spending Cuts, Saving Medicare

WASHINGTON, DC - House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) released the following statement today in response to a statement by Moody's Investors Service regarding the national debt:

“Today’s warning by Moody’s underscores the point we have been making all year: the threat to American jobs comes not from action on our debt, but from inaction on our debt. The president and his economic advisors have consistently perpetuated the myth that downgrades are caused by efforts to force the government to stop spending money we don’t have. People in both parties know what needs to be done to free our economy from the destructive debt that is blocking robust growth: we need to fundamentally reform our tax code, reduce spending, save Medicare, and reform other critical programs that are heading toward bankruptcy. Republicans have consistently put forth budgets that achieve these pro-growth goals. The Senate hasn't even produced a budget in three years. Americans deserve a president who will get Washington moving on the solutions we know are needed to reduce our debt, bring jobs home and get our economy moving again.”
