Democrat-led Congress Returns from Four Week Vacation Next Week With Few Accomplishments

After passing only one of their major objectives this year (a minimum wage increase accompanied by concessions to small businesses,) the Democrat-led 110th Congress returns to Washington D.C. after a 4 week vacation with the lowest ratings for Congress in American history; a paltry 18% of Americans approve of their performance. The American people now believe that the Iraq War is not lost (54%) which should put a brake on the many cut, run, and surrender resolutions this Democrat Congress has regularly churned out during the past few months, somehow forgetting that they were supposed to pass some 13 appropriations bills to fund the federal government during the next year.

President George W. Bush has promised to veto most of these Democrat bills to fund the government because they amount to at least $20 billion over the amount of spending he has urged Congress to pass. Christian Coalition of America will support President Bush's goal to keep funding within (or less) than his budget. In addition, Christian Coalition will do whatever is necessary to stop the nearly half trillion tax increases which the Democrats advocate for middle-income families and to stop the "Thought Crimes" bill which will punish priests, pastors and rabbis from speaking out against homosexuality from their pulpits.

Indeed, during a debate on the House floor during May, Congressman Artur Davis, Alabama Democrat, admitted that if this law passes, a clergyman could be charged with the crime of incitement if the minister preached that homosexuality is a sin and a person in that congregation left the church and committed a crime against a homosexual. A number of prominent black pastors have been leading the effort to defeat the "Thought Crimes" bill.

Just before the Senators went on their 4-week vacations, the Democrat-controlled Congress refused to debate the "Hate Crimes" bill sponsored by Senator Ted Kennedy, D-MA, and Republican Senator Gordon Smith from Oregon, in the normal committee process. Indeed, the Democrats filed this hateful "Hate Crimes" bill or "Thought Crimes" bill as an amendment to the Defense Authorization bill (S. 1535). What the "Thought Crimes" bill will do is to favor some victims of violent crimes over the victims of equally violent crime while ignoring the principle of equal justice under the law. Christian Coalition of America does not believe in giving special protection to some groups while neglecting to give the same protection to other Americans. Christian Coalition commends President Bush for promising to veto this abominable legislation.

Recently a report on ABC News proved that the murder victim -- for whom the "Thought Crimes" bill is named -- Matthew Shepard, who was homosexual, ironically was killed as a result of a robbery attempt which had nothing whatsoever to do with Shepard's homosexuality.

Conservatives Gain Great Victory for American Radio Listeners

Republican Congressmen Jeb Hensarling of Texas, Mike Pence of Indiana and Jeff Flake of Arizona won a huge victory for American radio listeners, the same week the Supreme Court ruled that racist "quotas" were no longer allowed in secondary schools across America and that American children could attend the schools in their neighborhoods instead of being bused.

Congressmen Flake, Pence and Hensarling -- the Chairman of the Republican Study Committee in the House of Representatives -- introduced their amendment to an appropriations bill just days before it passed the House of Representatives by an overwhelming margin of 309-115; an amendment which would bar the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) from using certain federal funds to enforce the Fairness Doctrine, should it be reinstated.

Some Democrats including the number 2 Democrat in the Senate, Majority Whip Richard Durbin, and Senator Diane Feinstein, had wanted to revive the Fairness Doctrine, which was instituted in 1949 and once required broadcasters to present different points of view in issues-oriented programs such as Rush Limbaugh's talk show and Sean Hannity's talk show.

Christian Coalition Continues Campaign to Support "In God We Trust" Presidential Dollar Coins

Christian Coalition of America is asking all of its supporters to call their Congressman and urge them to co-sponsor Virginia Congressman Virgil Goode's bill, H.R. 2510, to put America's motto, "In God We Trust" on the face of all the presidential dollar coins including the George Washington $1 coin, the John Adams $1 coin, etc. H.R. 2510 will "amend title 31, United States Code, to require the inscription `In God We Trust' to appear on a face of the $1 coins honoring each of the Presidents of the United States. (Introduced in House)....".

A Christian Coalition supporter who wrote the following email represents the views of most Americans who are outraged when they find out that the Treasury Department did not put "In God We Trust" on the face of the new presidential dollar coins:

"Who originally put 'In God We Trust' onto our currency? My bet is that it was one of the Presidents on these coins. All that our U.S. Government has done is to Dishonor them, and disgust me! I am personally offended and fed up with the denigration of God and Christianity in my country. I am certain George Washington would never have agreed to his picture on the coin if it any way diminished faith in God....".

Disgracefully, "In God We Trust" is hid on the edge of the presidential $1 coins in tiny letters. And they wonder why these presidential coins are not being bought by Americans! Congressman Goode introduced the bill on May 24th and already has over 90 co-sponsors. If you do not see your Congressman listed below, please call them immediately to become a co-sponsor:

Judicial Conduct Act Continues to Gain Co-Sponsors

Judicial tyranny has continued unabated for decades now, even after President George W. Bush has appointed mostly strict constructionists who do not legislate from the federal bench. Members of Congress are finally exercising their constitutional prerogatives to rein in these judicial tyrants. Congressman Todd Akin, R-MO, has introduced the "Judicial Conduct Act," H.R. 2898. Congressman Akin was the representative who in the 108th and 109th Congresses introduced the "Pledge Protection Act" which passed in both of those Congresses in the House of Representatives.

He is trying to force Congress to live up to its constitutional responsibilities which Congress did for nearly two centuries and that is to impeach federal judges when they unconstitutionally legislate from the bench. There have been 16 impeachments of federal officers, including 12 who were federal judges. Indeed the first judge to be impeached was for his judicial activism in 1804. Congressman Akin's "Judicial Conduct Act" warns the federal judiciary as to what grounds the United States Congress has to discipline the federal judiciary, such as any judicial usurpation of Congress' Article I, Section 1 legislative power.

Please call Congressman Akin and the following members of the House of Representatives to thank them for co-sponsoring Congressman Akin's "Judicial Conduct Act" at 202-225-3121: Roberta Aderholt, (AL-4), J. Gresham Barrett (SC-3), John Boozman, (AR-3), Steve Chabot (OH-1), John Abney Culberson (TX-7), John T. Doolittle (CA-4), Thelma D. Drake (VA-2), Trent Franks (AZ-2), Scott Garrett (NJ-5), Phil Gingrey (GA-11), Sam Johnson (TX-3), Steve King (IA-5), Jack Kingston (GA-1), Kenny Marchant (TX-24), Patrick McHenry (NC-10), Randy Neugebauer (TX-19), Joseph R. Pitts (PA-16), Ted Poe (TX-2), and Joe Wilson (SC-2).
