Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Ranking Member of Judiciary Committee Arlen Specter Tell Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy that "Clock is Ticking" on Their Promise to "Confirm Judicial Nominations" by Memorial Day Vacation - It is Time for Senate Republicans to "Slow walk" the Senate's Business Until Harry Reid and Patrick Leahy Keep Their Promises

The Democrat-controlled Senate is way behind the averages in confirming President George W. Bush's judicial nominees to the United States Circuit Court of Appeals. They have confirmed only 7 nominees thus far compared with the 15 circuit court nominees confirmed by the Republican Senate during Bill Clinton's last 2 years in office. Republican Senate Leader Mitch McConnell (KY) had secured a promise from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) that he would allow votes on 3 judicial nominations before their 3rd vacation of the year; by Memorial Day.

Senators McConnell and Arlen Specter (R-PA) wrote in their letter to Harry Reid and Patrick Leahy that "The clock is ticking. It has now been two full weeks since your commitment to do 'everything' you could to confirm three more circuit court nominees by the Memorial Day recess." Unfortunately, these Democrat Senators are trying to vote only on the circuit court nominees they approve of, including the liberal Bush nominee, Helene White, a relative of Senator Carl Levin, D-MI, who was recently nominated by President Bush. Senator Levin has allowed vacancies for years on the appeals court covering his state of Michigan to go unfilled (4th Circuit) because he insisted on Helene White being nominated by President Bush.

The Democrats fast-tracked a hearing for Helene White scheduled in the Senate Judiciary Committee next Wednesday (May 7th.) Thankfully, one of President Bush's conservative nominees, Raymond Kethledge, nominated to the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals, will get a hearing next Wednesday. However, some of President Bush's appeals court nominees have been waiting for a similar hearing for months and months.

In their letter to Senators Reid and Leahy, Republican Leader McConnell and Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Arlen Specter said: "We would hope, given the likelihood that Judge White and Mr. Kethledge cannot be confirmed prior to the recess, that, in order to fulfill the commitment, Chairman Leahy would turn to other outstanding circuit court nominees pending in Committee who have been ready for hearings and waiting far longer than Judge White or Mr. Kethledge.

Senators McConnell and Specter said in their letter: "As we have mentioned previously, Mr. Peter Keisler has already had a hearing and has been waiting for over 660 days for a simple Committee vote, and Judge Robert Conrad and Mr. Steve Matthews, nominees to the Fourth Circuit, are ready for hearings and have been waiting for many months. Both Judge Conrad and Mr. Matthews have enjoyed strong home-state support from their Senate delegations, one of whom is a valued member of the Committee. All three of these nominees deserve prompt consideration by the Committee and up-or-down votes by the full Senate."

Even some members of the United States House of Representatives got involved this week in the battle over judicial nominees in the Senate. All 21 Republican House members from Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals states sent a letter to Senate Judiciary Chairman Pat Leahy blasting him for his committee's "inexcusable" obstruction of that circuit's nominees and telling the Democrat Senator that his obstructionism is "negatively affect (ing) the lives of the people of Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina."

These Republican members of the House said the obstructionism by Democrats is "hurt(ing) average people hoping for courts to resolve their disputes, small businesses trying to get by in our uncertain economy, and crime victims seeking justice ....(T)hey see their cases delayed because there are not enough judges to handle the caseload on the Fourth Circuit."

Christian Coalition of America condemns these obstructionism tactics by the Senate Democrats which have caused 33% of the Fourth Circuits' seats to remain vacant.

U.S. Supreme Court Ruled on Monday that the Indiana Voter ID Law is Constitutional/Law Aimed to Prevent Wide-spread Fraud at the Voting Booth

On Monday, the United States Supreme Court upheld the state law in Indiana which required voters to present a photo ID with the aim of preventing voter fraud. Even the left-wing long-serving Justice, John Paul Stevens, voted with the 6-3 majority. On the other hand, David Souter, THE most liberal justice appointed by a Republican president (George H. W. Bush) voted with Bill Clinton's 2 appointees, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer in the minority.

Justice Stevens in writing for the majority said that the Indiana law protects the integrity of the electoral process. Republicans who backed the law said that it is aimed at preventing voter fraud. Justice Antonin Scalia (Reagan appointee;) Clarence Thomas (Bush 41 appointee;) and Samuel Alito (Bush 43 appointee) said that they would have gone further and made a ruling that voter ED laws are "eminently reasonable" regardless of whether they have an impact on many voters. The ruling came just in time for next Tuesday's Indiana primaries. Florida (which had reported voter fraud in the 2000 election) and Georgia are the only other states requiring voter ID.

The "Washinton Times" reported: "The court was weighing in on what has been a little-noticed but bitter struggle between Democrats and Republicans over fraud and voters' access to the voting booth." Democrats have long been unconcerned about fraud at the voting booth and indeed are wanting felons to be eligible to vote.

On Tuesday, "The Wall Street Journal" reported that "at the margins," the ruling "might hurt Democratic vote totals because recent immigrants and low-income citizens -- two categories that tend to be affected by such rules -- often vote that way.

9th United States Court of Appeals Approves Injunction in a Lower Court Ruling Which Halted a New Washington State Mandate Forcing Pro-Life Pharmacists to Fill Prescriptions for ALL Drugs, Including Abortion Drugs

The left-wing 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, which has its decisions often overturned by the United States Supreme Court, ruled right for once, and upheld an injunction in a lower court which halted a new Washington state law which would have forced pro-life pharmacists to fill prescriptions for ALL drugs, including abortion drugs. The Washington state law would force pro-life pharmacists to violate their moral or religious beliefs to dispense the morning after abortion pill and birth control pills.

The extreme left-wing Governor, pro-abortion Chris Gregoire, forced the Washington state pharmacy board to approve the rules in 2007. Pharmacists, including Kevin Stormans, who owns a number of pharmacies in Washington state filed a lawsuit last July seeking to overturn the abominable rules and to opt out of dispensing the Plan B pills.

Then, United States District Judge Ronald Leighton made a decision that pharmacists can refuse to dispense the morning after pill or other terrible drugs if they refer the customer to another store where they can get the order filled by another pharmacist. The 9th Circuit Court said that its ruling to uphold the lower court's injunction will not injure women while the appeals court decides on the appeal of Judge Leighton's decision.

Yesterday, U.S. House of Representatives Approved a Pro-life Genetic Discrimination Ban Which will Bar Employers and Health Insurers from Discriminating Against Individuals on the Basis of thier own or their Family Members' Genetic Information - Bill is headed for President Bush's signature

Yesterday, the United States House of Representatives almost unanimously approved a genetic discrimination ban which passed 95-0 by the United States Senate with only Congressman Ron Paul, R-TX, voting no in the House. The bill is on its way to President Bush for his signature.

The genetic discrimination ban bill will bar employers and insurance companies from discriminating against individuals based either on their own genetic information or their family members' genetic information. Such genetic tests could lead to the abortion of unborn children with Down Syndrome; some 80% of these unborn babies are killed by abortionists each year. Employers will no longer be able to make hiring or promotion or assignment decisions based on genetic tests. Additionally, health insurance companies will no longer be able to discriminate in enrollment or premium decisions based on the results of genetic tests.

Republicans Tell Democrats: "Higher Taxes Won't Lower Prices at the Pump" - Since Democrats Promised to Lower Gas Prices, and Took Over Congress, Prices Have Risen an Incredible $1.30 per Gallon from $2.35 to $3.64

This week, the Republicans in Congress blasted the Democrats who control the 110th Congress for not keeping one of their most important campaign promises: to lower gasoline prices. Since the Democrats took control from the Republicans in January of last year, gas prices per gallon have gone up an incredible $1.30 per gallon. Exactly 2 years ago, last week, Nancy Pelosi, Democrat from San Francisco, promised the American people if they returned control of Congress to her Democrat Party, they would lower gas prices. Instead the average price per gallon is now $3.64 per gallon around the United States.

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (KY) said in remarks on the Senate floor last Tuesday: "I was happy to read that the (Democrat) majority has tasked their chairmen to come up with ideas to work on this issue. But I fear that the answer that comes back will be the same two-word prescription that they've offered in the past: Higher taxes. But higher taxes will only raise the price at the pump, not lower it.

"So while we move forward on the FAA bill, the Senate should not forget what Americans are most concerned about: the dramatic increase in pain at the pump over the last year. And we should be able to stipulate at the outset that raising taxes as a way of addressing that problem isn't even worth our consideration."

Senator McConnell said before gas prices went up another 5 cents later in the week: "The price of gas has jumped by more than $1.25 a gallon since the beginning of the current Congress. The cost of oil nearly tripled in that time -- from about $45 a barrel last January to about $120 a barrel now."

Congressman Paul Broun continues to Seek More Co-Sponsors of his "Military Honor and Decency Act, H.R. 5821, Which is Aimed at Ending the Sale of Pornography on U.S. Military Installations

Congressman Paul Broun, Republican from Georgia, continued to work this week on getting more co-sponsors for his "Military Honor and Decency Act," H.R. 5821. Congressman Broun's bill is aimed at finally ending the sale of pornography such as "Penthouse" on United States military installations around the world. Congressman Todd Akin, R-MO, who has sons in the military, and who is on the House Armed Services Committee, is also helping Congressman Broun get co-sponsors on the "Military Honor and Decency Act." At this time, H.R. 5821 has 16 co-sponsors.

Christian Coalition of America activists can help Congressman Broun get co-sponsors by contacting their own Members of the House of Representatives and increase the number of co-sponsors, thus increasing pressure on the Defense Department which has allowed this smut into their military post exchanges and bases.

If military personnel want to buy pornography, that is their prerogative. However, the United States military has no business, whatsoever, using the tax dollars that hard-working Americans give them, to subsidize the abominable companies which produce "Penthouse," "Playboy," and "Playgirl," etc. Congressman Broun's bill would simply remove the U.S. military and the American taxpayers from the transaction.

ACTION ITEM: Please your Congressman at 202-225-3121 or you can go to and email them and urge them to co-sponsor Congressman Paul Broun's "Military Honor and Decency Act," H.R. 5821.

Christian Coalition Activists Need to Encourage 110th Congress to Pass Both "Net Neutrality" and "Multicast-Equal Access" Legislation to Prevent Discrimination Against Religious Broadcasters - Democrat-controlled Congress Expected to Pass "Net Neutrality"

"Multicast/Equal Access" (formerly called "Multicast/Must-carry") will go a long way to preventing discrimination against religious broadcasters. Without a "Multicast/Equal Access" law, the cable and satellite companies would probably not add new Christian channels and the influence of current Christian channels will be diluted.

ACTION ITEM: Please all your Congressman at 202-225-3121 or you can go to and email them and urge them to co-sponsor the Net Neutrality legislation introduced by Republican Congressman Charles "Chip" Pickering and Democrat Congressman Edward Markey called the "Internet Freedom Preservation Act of 2008," H.R. 5353.

There are a number of President Bush's Circuit Court of Appeals' nominees who have not yet received a Senate floor vote. The challenge to confirm President Bush's nominees in a Democrat-controlled Senate will be very difficult and we need your help in doing just that. You will become part of a team of individuals who are committed to being ready on a moment’s notice to take action when obstruction occurs.

Please keep the above issues in prayer. Through prayer and action great and mighty things can be accomplished.
