What’s Bad For K Street is Good for Americans

“K St. lobbyists predict a big rebound in 2013,” blared in gigantic bold letters at the top of the front-page article in “The Hill” newspaper on March 5, 2013.  Let us all hope that headline is not true.  Because what is good for K Street is bad for American taxpayers and vice versa, for the most part.  Those of us who have worked on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. have friends who are or have been corporate lobbyists on K Street which runs parallel to Constitution and Independence Avenues, between the Capitol Building and the White House.  “The Hill” article reported that “K Street firms are predicting a strong rebound in 2013.”

Capitol Hill Update: Republicans Vote a Resounding NO to Dems' Omnibus Bill

The Christian Coalition of America will be rewarding those 28 Democrats  --  who joined every single Republican in the House of Representatives voting yesterday  --  with a positive score in its next Christian Coalition of America Congressional Scorecard regarding the bloated and pork-filled Omnibus money bill the House Democrats passed by a margin of 221-202 (with one Democrat voting president, ala state senator Barack Obama who voted present numerous times worried about his political viability if he took a position on many issues; 7 Democrats and 3 Republicans did not vote.)

Voting for this gigantic spending bill is an absolute disgrace besides the fact that provisions in the bill attack the American family and our culture.  The official name of the bill is the "Consolidated Appropriations Act for FY 2010," H.R. 3288.  The reason the Democrats call it a "consolidated" spending bill or an "omnibus" spending bill is that they could not get their job done, as they promised they would, repeatedly, during the 2006 and 2008 campaigns.  They got only 5 of the 12 spending bills signed into law this year, a record worse than most Republican Congresses.

By getting $30 million to protect a mouse, Nancy Pelosi is Pork Queen

San Francisco Democrat Nancy Pelosi got one of the most ridiculous pork project victories in the pathetic history of the modern United States Congress which is contained in Barack Obama's $1 trillion (with interest) "stimulus" bill. Most experts including Democrats, believe the Obama bill will actually cause a decrease to the gross domestic product (GDP) compared to if nothing had been done at all.

There is a pork project in the bill in the amount of $30 million to be spent in Nancy Pelosi's congressional district to save an "endangered" salt marsh harvest mouse, a project which puts her on par with the Pork King himself, the prolific and wasteful spender, John Murtha from Pennsylvania.

According to today's "The Washington Times," Republicans accused Democrats of reneging on a promise to keep pork projects (euphemistically called "ear-marks") which fund lawmakers' favorite projects out of the legislation. The spokesman for the Republican leader in the House of Representatives, Congressman John Boehner said: "One of the proudest boasts of Democrats supporting their trillion-dollar spending plan is that it doesn't contain earmarks. But it seems like powerful Democrats will still find a way to bring home the bacon." The spokesman added, "This certainly doesn't sound like it will create or save American jobs. So can Speaker Pelosi explain exactly how we will improve the American economy by helping the adorable little critter?"

Republicans Continue to Challenge Pork-filled Obama "Stimulus" Bill

Senate Republicans continue to challenge the pork-filled Obama "stimulus" bill now bloated up to $930 Billion ($110 Billion more than the House bill which received NO Republican votes last week; with interest, bill will balloon to some $1.4 TRILLION) - Democrats continue to defeat Republican-sponsored amendments to kill hundreds of BILLIONS of dollars of non-stimulus, pork-filled items in the Obama bill
