The Supreme Court may have ruled on Obamacare, but a pro-life law firm that is behind some of the many lawsuits that have been filed against the HHS mandate that requires religious groups to pay for birth control and abortion-causing drugs say those challenges continue.

Last Thursday, the Supreme Court issued a 5-4 decision essentially upholding the Obamacare law that pro-life groups regard as the biggest expansion of abortion and abortion funding since Roe v. Wade. The law also drew strong opposition from the pro-life community not only over abortion but because the legislation also promotes rationing of medical care that could lead to involuntarily denying lifesaving treatment.

Under the enacted law, federal tax-based subsidies will begin in 2014 to subsidize millions of private insurance plans that will cover abortion-on-demand, including some plans (“multi-state plans”) that will be administered by the federal government.

Obamacare’s critics argue that the law is unconstitutional because the federal government cannot force an individual to purchase healthcare, or anything else, for that matter.

Now, with the birth-control coverage mandate soon to be implemented, the Catholic Church is ramping up its efforts to fight the regulation which they believe violates their First Amendment rights. The newly-energized opposition does not bode well for Team Obama’s reelection.

In an email distributed by Human Events, a conservative publication, Republican presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich takes the Obama administration to task of its new Obamacare mandate.

The mandate, which has been soundly condemned by pro-life and religious groups, would force religious employers to pay for health insurance coverage that includes drugs that can cause abortions, birth control and contraception — even if the employer has a conscience objection to providing such coverage. The Obama administration has given such employers one year to implement the mandate but Catholics groups and two colleges — one Catholic and one Protestant — have already filed lawsuits against it.

“Last week, the Obama administration finalized a radical new rule that uses the health care law to require all health insurance providers to cover abortion-inducing drugs and sterilization as well as contraception, all free of charge,” Gingrich writes.

Like many leftists, President Obama has deep contempt for Christianity and democracy. This is why his administration has declared war on the Catholic Church and religious liberty.

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius recently went ahead and approved last year’s decision to mandate that many religious organizations provide health insurance plans to their employees that include contraception, abortion-inducing drugs and sterilization coverage - and this must be done without charging a co-pay. In other words, Mr. Obama has done something that is ominous and unprecedented: compelling religious groups to embrace and subsidize free birth control. Catholic universities, hospitals and charities must either betray their fundamental social teachings or drop insurance coverage for their employees, thereby triggering massive financial penalties under Obamacare.
