Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A new national poll conducted by the Associated Press finds opposition to the pro-abortion health care bill has increased in the weeks following President Barack Obama's signing it. Meanwhile, a Rasmussen survey shows more Americans say President Barack Obama is doing a poor job as president.

In what political observers say is an indication Democrats may have a tough road in the coming November congressional elections, AP shows Americans are strongly opposed to their government-run health care bill that funds and promotes abortions.

The new Associated Press-GfK poll has Americans opposing the health care remake 50 percent to 39 percent with another 10 percent saying they have no opinion....

President Obama and congressional Democrats face an uphill climb to reclaim the support of independent voters who vaulted them to the White House and huge majorities in Congress in 2008.

At the end of the bitter, intensely partisan battle to pass Mr. Obama's health care overhaul plan, independent voters, once captivated by hopeful campaign promises, are feeling burned and appear eager to oust Democrats in November's midterm elections.

"There is an overall sense of frustration that no one is listening," pollster Scott Rasmussen said about a problem that has plagued the political party in power for decades.

Mr. Rasmussen said the more pressing issue for Democrats is that swing voters are not just anxious about health care; they're also angry about the stimulus package and auto industry bailouts...

Republican Rep. Eric Cantor said Thursday that his Richmond campaign office has been shot at and that he's received "threatening e-mails" -- but at the same time accused top Democrats of trying to exploit the threats they've been receiving for "political gain."

Cantor said "a bullet was shot through the window" of his campaign office. The incident happened Monday, Fox News has learned, the latest in a rash of apparent threats and acts of intimidation against members of Congress. Most of the threats so far have been reported by Democrats, but Cantor -- the No. 2 Republican in the House -- is one of about 10 lawmakers who has asked for increased security protection, Fox News has learned.

But in brief and pointed remarks, Cantor said he would not be releasing any information about the other threats he's received, as some lawmakers have done, out of concern that it would "encourage more to be sent"....

•Growing percentages of the public oppose it, as indicated in poll after poll - just as the public opposes "reconciliation," the Democrats' chosen method of forcing it down the public's throat.

•According to pollsters Scott Rasmussen and Doug Schoen, polls last week show that 57 percent of voters believe passage of Obamacare would hurt the economy (25 percent believe it would help) and just 17 percent believe it would cut health care costs.

But if she refuses to negotiate, he and other pro-life Democrats will vote no.

Stupak is the author of the famous amendment that banned abortion funding under the House measure but did not make the Senate version.

A newly hired conservative political analyst for CNN says the more Americans learn about the Democrats' healthcare legislation, the less they like it.

A vote could occur as early as Sunday in the House on the Democrats' healthcare bill. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) needs 216 votes to pass the measure. On Thursday, Republicans lost an effort to force House Democrats to hold a direct vote on the measure.

Meanwhile, some Democratic lawmakers are still announcing positions one way or the other and House Republicans say they will continue doing everything possible to block the bill.

Democratic leaders had been waiting for a Congressional Budget Office announcing the financial impact of the government-run health care bill before finalizing plans to proceed.

They received the report today saying the measure will cost just under $1 trillion.

Happy about those numbers, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said he expected the House to vote on Sunday....

House Democrats said Thursday that their revamped health care reform bill would achieve the deficit reductions needed to push forward with a delicate plan to finalize the package, setting up a possible vote for Sunday.

The Congressional Budget Office estimated that the updated package would cost $940 billion over the next decade without adding to the deficit.

The estimate shows the bill would save $138 billion over the first 10 years. It is estimated to expand health insurance coverage to 32 million more Americans -- or 1 million more people than the original Senate bill....
