City Council of Berkeley, California Partially Surrendered to Huge Public Outcry After Berkeley had Voted to Oust Marines from Recruiting in City - Senator DeMint and Congressman Campbell Continue to Gather Co-Sponsors for their Legislation Denying Funds to the City of Berkeley and Giving Those Funds to the Marine Corps - Senate Democrat Leader Harry Reid STOPPED Vote on DeMint Legislation 4 Times Before Senate Recessed for 11-Day Washington Birthday Vacation to Avoid Forcing Democrats to Vote FOR the Marine Corps or FOR the City of Berkeley

The city council of Berkeley, California partially surrendered to the huge pressure by the American people and Members of the United States Congress outraged with their decision last month to rid their city of the United States Marine Corps. The adolescent city council members reliving their 1960's hippie-lifestyles and other members of the city council voted 8-1 to tell the Marine recruiters that they were "uninvited and unwelcome intruders."

The "Los Angeles Times" reported that what caused the left-wing radicals on the city council to reconsider their original vote was that Members of Congress, including Congressman John Campbell, R-CA, and Senator Jim DeMint, R-S.C. sponsored legislation to "reroute $2.3 million in federal funding from Berkeley to the Marines". The city council had received a whopping 26,000 emails in a very brief period of time from irate Americans who called the city council's declaration irresponsible.

At the same meeting, these 8 aging hippies and young naive narcissists voted to give the protest group, Code Pink -- which made the anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan a household name a couple summers ago -- special privileges to harass the Marines and young people who were being recruited with all kinds of loud noise devices once a week over a 6-month period.

Thankfully, the United States Congress is stepping into this fray. Last Wednesday, Congressman John Campbell, R-CA, introduced the "Semper Fi Act," (H.R. 5222.) Senator Jim DeMint, R-SC, will be introducing the same bill, "Semper Fi Act" (on the Senate floor, possibly as an amendment to another bill).

Unfortunately, the leader of the Senate Democrats, Harry Reid, Nevada, refused 4 times during the past 2 weeks to allow a vote on the DeMint legislation before he recessed the Senate for an 11-day Washington Birthday vacation. "The Hill" newspaper on Tuesday reported that "Republicans said Democrats clearly wanted to avoid being forced to choose between the Marine Corps or Berkeley".

Senator DeMint's spokesman, Wesley Denton, said, "The only reason to recess to block something, and the thing that got blocked by Reid's stall tactic was the Semper Fi Act. Democrats have chosen not to defend the Marine Corps, but pander to anti-war protesters and Berkeley officials that are actively trying to impede military recruitment."

Undoubtedly, the American people are not going to put up with these kinds of insults by left-coast liberals against our United States Marine Corps and the military services or their military recruiters. It is beyond unpatriotic! Senator DeMint said, "Berkeley needs to learn that their actions have consequences".

The Berkeley city council agenda reads: "Encourage (s) all people to avoid cooperation with the Marine Corps recruiting station, and applaud residents and organizations such as Code Pink, that may volunteer to impede, passively or actively, by nonviolent means, the work of any military recruiting office located in the City of Berkeley".

Congressman Campbell's bill and Senator DeMint's legislation, supported by the Christian Coalition of America, will "rescind all of the funding contained in the Omnibus Appropriations Act for the City of Berkeley, CA and transfer those funds to the Marines. This (bill) is in response to Berkeley’s City Council's recent vote to tell the Marines to close their recruiting station in the city. With this vote, they told the Marines recruiting office is not welcome in our city, and if recruiters choose to stay, they do so as uninvited and unwelcome intruder".

ACTION ITEMS: 1. Request your Member of the House of Representatives at 202-225-3121 or you can go to http://www.cc.org/contactcongress.cfm and ask them to become co-sponsors of the "Semper Fi Act," Congressman Campbell's bill, H.R. 5222 in the House of Representatives. 2. Contact the Democrat Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid, at 202-224-5556, or you can go to http://www.cc.org/contactcongress.cfm and urge him to allow a vote on Senator DeMint's "Semper Fi Act" when the Senate returns from the Washington Birthday recess.

U.S. Air Force Academy Ignores God's First Commandment (Thou Shalt Have no Other gods Before Me) and "Installs First Space on an American Military Installation Dedicated Solely to Meditation" with a Hollow Bones Rinzai Zen school minister's dedicating the space chanting, "May this Buddhist sanctuary spread the dharma....sheltering the cadets and airmen of the U.S. Air Force ...."

"The Washington Times" yesterday in an article entitled "Academy Dharma" reported an incredible dedication at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO, which occurred in October 2007, the dedication of a "Buddhist sanctuary" right within the walls of the Air Force Academy's Chapel, obviously ignoring God's first commandment: "Thou shalt have no other gods before me."

"The Washington Times" quoted the spring edition of "Tricycle" magazine: "On a Monday morning in late October 2007, six U .S. Air Force Academy cadets gathered in a small room below the iconic aluminum spires of the academy's Protestant chapel to arrange incense, flowers, votive candles and bowls of pure water for the coming ceremony. Soon, two dozen attendees to the dedication of the Vast Refuge Dharma Hall Chapel, the first space on an American military base dedicated solely to meditation, would remove their shoes.

"The $85,000 hall, situated in the Air Force Academy chapel's basement, was built with donations from Friends of Zen, a nonprofit. After attendees chanted the Heart Sutra to the beat of a drum, the Reverend Dai en Wiley Burch of the Hollow Bones Rinzai Zen school dedicated the space with these words: 'May this Buddhist sanctuary spread the dharma like a great bodhi tree, sheltering the cadets and airmen of the U.S. Air Force from storms of ignorance and the suffering of war'".

It is Way Past Time for Chairman David Martin's FCC to Crack Down on Obscenities Expressed Regularly by Smut Artists, Such as Yesterday's Jane Fonda's "C-word" on NBC's Meredith Viera's "Today" Show, just Weeks after ABC's Diane Keaton's use of the "F-word" on Diane Sawyer's "Good Morning America"

Christian Coalition of America urges the Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Kevin Martin, to immediately crack-down on the increasing using of obscenities not only during prime time shows by the television networks, but even on the morning shows. Mr. Martin and the other four commission members (Michael J. Copps, who has been a fine Democrat member of the commission; Jonthan S. Adelstein; Deborah Taylor Tate, and Robert M. McDowell) need to immediately tell all broadcast networks they must have ALL live broadcasts such as "Good Morning America," and the "Today Show" on a 10 second tape delay to bleep out the increasing obscenities on these and other shows.

Just weeks after smut actress Diane Keaton used the F-word on Diane Sawyer's ABC "Good Morning America," a live show, which is supposed to use a time-delay to avoid children hearing all of these obscenities, yesterday, on Meredith Viera's "Today" show on NBC, Jane Fonda, the infamous anti-Vietnam War traitor, said the "C-word" in describing the thoroughly disgusting play, The __-Monologues."

Besides forcing all live shows on the broadcast networks to be on a tape delay to delete obscenities, the FCC needs to begin using the mandate which Congress imposed on the FCC to greatly increase the fines they have imposed on the networks for indecency in their programs.

Christian Coalition of America commended the FCC last month for proposing a $1.43 million indecency fine against the ABC Television Network for a 2003 episode of "NYPD Blue," the second-largest proposed indecency fine against a television broadcaster ever. However, this is just a drop in the bucket which needs to be done by the FCC.

Last month, FCC Commission Deborah Taylor Tate wrote in a statement: "The law is simple. If a broadcaster makes the decision to show indecent programming, it must air between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. This is neither difficult to understand nor burdensome to implement".

The United States Congress gave the FCC the tools to act against these smut-filled television networks. Congress overwhelmingly passed Senator Sam Brownback's (R-KS) and Congressman Fred Upton's (R-MI) "Broad Decency Enforcement Act of 2005. The House of Representatives passed it 379-35 on June 7, 2006 and the Senate passed it unanimously and President Bush signed it (S. 193) into law on June 15, 2006. This new law increased fines for indecency violations by television and radio broadcasters up to $325,000.

Gene R. Nichol, William and Mary Controversial President, Resigned this Week After Receiving Notice that his Contract would not be Renewed - Nichols Made Controversial Decisions such as Removing the Cross from Wren Chapel and allowing Students to Host a "Sex Workers' Art Show"

Christian Coalition of America called for the firing of Gene R. Nichol, the president of William and Mary College a number of times during the past couple years because of his disdain for Christianity and for his other left-wing proclivities; He had insisted the brass cross in Wren Chapel, which had been displayed for decades and decades, be hidden away because he felt its display discriminated against other religions.

Among other outrageous actions, Mr. Nichol also allowed his students to host an obscene sex show called "Sex Workers' Art Show." As a result of his action removing the Wren Chapel cross, one donor to the college withdrew a $12 million gift and many other donors stopped giving or demanded their gifts be returned. Christian Coalition of America commends the College of William and Mary for removing this controversial figure from the office of president.

CBS' "60 Minutes" Shows Segment Regarding Whether or Not the U.S. Penny Coin Should be Eliminated - New Pennies Produced by U.S. Mint Shown Last Sunday Did not Have "In God We Trust" on the FACE of any of the Coins - Senator Brownback's & Congressman Goode's "In God We Trust" Currency Legislation Signed into Law Last Year Mandates Nation's Motto on the FACE of ALL Coins and on ALL Currency

Senator Sam Brownback, R-KS, and Congressman Virgil Goode, R-VA, did a tremendous job in getting the United States Congress to pass legislation last year which would force the United States Mint to put America's motto, "In God We Trust" on the FACE of all coins and on all currency." President Bush signed the legislation into law.

However, on CBS' "60 Minutes" last Sunday, during a segment on whether or not the U.S. Mint should continue to make pennies (and nickels) when brand new pennies were shown close up, none of the coins had "In God We Trust" on the FACE of the coins ( on either side of the pennies.) Christian Coalition of America urges the appropriate congressional committees to follow-up within an appropriate amount of time to ensure the U.S. Mint complies with the United States law.

Christian Coalition Activists Need to Encourage 110th Congress to Pass Both "Net Neutrality" and "Multicast/Equal Access" Legislation to Prevent Discrimination Against Religious Broadcasters /Democrat-controlled Congress Expected to Pass "Net Neutrality"

The lame-duck Republican Senate did not pass a telecommunications bill and thus a "Net Neutrality" provision was not passed in the 109th Congress.

"Net Neutrality" is an issue extremely important to America's grassroots organizations and those Americans who want to ensure the cable and phone companies controlling access to the Internet will not discriminate against groups like Christian Coalition of America. Although AT&T recently made an agreement with the FCC that it would agree to "net neutrality" in order to merge with BellSouth Corporation in an $86 billion merger, the agreement only lasts 2 years. Therefore Congress must pass "net neutrality" legislation in order to make "net neutrality" permanent.

It is anticipated that the Democrat-controlled 110th Congress will agree with the position of the recent House Judiciary Committee Chairman, James Sensenbrenner, Republican-WI, and pass a "Net Neutrality" bill during the 110th Congress. If "Net Neutrality" legislation does not pass, consumers will have to pay an additional fee to have a website. The cable/telephone monopoly will be dividing the Internet into a "fast track" and "slow track." Our grassroots, many of whom cannot afford the additional fees, will have to be on the slow track, which will mean that many of our websites will be passed by because the general public will not have the patience to go on the "slow track".

"Multicast/Equal Access" (formerly called "Multicast/Must-carry") will go a long way to preventing discrimination against religious broadcasters. Without a "Multicast/Equal Access" law, the cable and satellite companies would probably not add new Christian channels and the influence of current Christian channels will be diluted.

Action Item: Please continue to ask your Members of Congress to support “Multicast/Equal Access” and religious broadcasters. Call your Congressman and 2 Senators at 202-225-3121 or you can go to http://www.cc.org/contactcongress.cfm and email them and let them know we need a “Multicast/Equal Access” and "Net Neutrality" legislation to pass in the 110th Congress.
