Coalition Guest Commentary - Rep. Michele Bachmann: Federal ACORN Funding Cutoffs Must Be More than Political Posturing
Two weeks ago, the AP reported that acting under a tip from ACORN, authorities in Florida have arrested 11 individuals accused of falsifying hundreds of voter applications during a registration drive last year. According to the press report, "the suspects collectively turned in about 1,400 registration cards, of which 888 were later found to be faked."
While this was certainly a smart move on ACORN's part to assist in this criminal investigation, this controversial organization is far too often implicated in these falsified voter registration activities.
Over the years, ACORN and its employees have been the subject of investigations, indictments, and consent decrees in states all across the nation for election-related activities that run afoul of the law. Yet, since 1994, Congress has given it $53 million. And, legislation passed this year alone will make billions potentially available to this organization. Could Washington find no more worthy way to spend your money...? (Read More)

Capitol Hill Update: Obama's Czars to Go the Way of the Soviet Union?
After the midnight resignation in the middle of Labor Day weekend of one of the most radical "czars" in the Obama administration -- a former communist named Van Jones, who was appointed by the president as his "Green Jobs Czar" -- the American people began wondering why all of these unelected and unexamined-by-the-U.S. Senate policy czars were necessary. Even the liberal and most senior United States Senator, Robert Byrd, from West Virginia has questioned the constitutionality of such czars.
One Member of Congress has actually introduced legislation to get rid of these czars, which, to be fair, were also used in the Bush administration, although in much fewer numbers. Congressman Steve Scalise, a second-term Republican from Louisana, has introduced a bill entitled: "Sunset All Czars Act," (H.R. 3569,) which will bring a halt to the widening practice of the White House to bypass "Congressional oversight by appointing unaccountable advisors to policy-making."
Congressman Scalise, when introducing his legislation, pointed out that over 30 individuals have been appointed by President Obama to serve as "czars" in the current Administration. He says: "Without Senate oversight, these appointments distance our nation from its core values of transparency and accountability"... (Read More)

Pennsylvania Case Shows Illogic of Abortion Laws
An awful story out of Pennsylvania gives occasion to think about the illogic of abortion laws in our country and, in this case, how the only difference between homicide and legal activity is the feelings of the would-be mother.
Via LifeNews:
A teenager in Pennsylvania has entered a guilty plea in a case where he is accused of an attempted forced abortion where he tried to spike his girlfriend's drink. The unnamed teen laced the drink with a drug normally used to abort pregnancies in cows that appears to have been stolen.
He tainted the girls' drink on March 31 at Williamsburg High School and authorities considered the crime an aggravated assault against both the girl and her unborn child... (Read More)

Great Victory for Christian Coalition of America on Net Neutrality
Christian Coalition of America (CCA) gained an important victory this week when the Obama administration agreed with its stance on "net neutrality", ensuring that organizations such as the Christian Coalition of America could not be discriminated against by massive communications corporations.
Julius Genachowski, the head of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), plans to propose new regulations which would prevent Internet service providers such as Comcast Corporation, AT&T Inc, and Verizon Communications Inc, from interfering with the free flow of information on the Internet. FCC Chairman Genachowski will announce the proposed rules in a speech today at the Brookings Institution.
CCA had taken the lead amongst conservative groups in a broad coalition of organizations which faught to support net neutrality in Congress. This broad coalition included groups from across the political spectrum - from organizations such as the National Religious Broadcasters to progressive groups such as Moveon.org... (Read More)

Capitol Hill Update: Signs of America's Surrender in Afghanistan
Is the Democrat Party getting ready to surrender yet another American ally to our enemies? There are signs that this could be the case. In today's "The Washington Times," a front-page story has the headline: "Will Army brass get day in Congress?" The article says that the Republicans in Congress are eager to help Obama's generals in the Pentagon receive a troop surge in Afghanistan which the generals need to successfully win the war.
The question of the year is, will the president listen to his generals and give them the extra troops needed for victory in Afghanistan? Obama's hero, Republican President Abraham Lincoln, listened to his generals, especially Ulysses S. Grant, and won the Civil War.
Considering the track record of the anti-war majority faction in the Democrat Party, victory against our enemies in Afghanistan does not look promising. The anti-war Democrat majority in the early 1970's forced a surrender to America's communist enemies in South Vietnam. This same anti-war faction almost caused America to surrender in Iraq just a few years ago, but President George W. Bush listened to his generals and gave them the troop "surge" they requested and the war in Iraq has been won... (Read More)
