Democrat-controlled U.S. Senate Fiddles While America Burns

The Democrat-controlled United States Senate under the leadership of Harry Reid, D-NV, has done virtually nothing since it began on January 5th of this year.  Indeed, the Democrat leadership in the Senate  --  and in the United States House of Representatives, during the leadership (if you can call it that) of San Francisco Democrat Nancy Pelosi when she was speaker for 4 years before the Republicans took control this past January  --  has not passed a budget as required by law for a number of years.
On the other hand, the new Republican-controlled House of Representatives passed its budget, as required by law, earlier this year.  The House Republicans have also passed over 25 major bills to create jobs in America, a nation which has suffered a 9% unemployment rate, on the average, under Barack Obama since he became president almost 3 years ago.
Before the Republicans adjourned for Christmas in the House of Representatives last week, they passed a spending bill  --  now signed into law by Obama  --  which will fund the government until the end of the 2012 Fiscal Year on September 30th.

Super Committee: Super Failure

Did anyone with commonsense really think that a rigged congressional "Super Committee"   --  formed because of the failure of the United States Congress to come up with one or two or three or four trillion dollars worth of needed cuts to the federal debt  --   would ever accomplish their goal?

Actually, the "Super Committee's" assigned task was to come up with at least $1.2 trillion worth of cuts over the next decade or there would be automatic cuts across the federal government including half coming the defense budget.  Of course, the Democrats protected Medicare and Medicaid from any cuts or reform except maybe a couple billion dollars of administrative savings or whatever.

The "Super Committee" was doomed to failure because the Democrats stacked their half of the 12-member committee with left-wing idealogues.  The Republicans put on the committee a few Republicans who in the past have shown willingness to compromise, although there were a couple very conservative members selected by the Republican leadership.

Everyone will recall all the doomsday scenarios put out by Barack Obama and his party and their friends in the news media about the pending debt ceiling crisis early this year; then the crisis was put off for a couple more months, then the crisis was put off until last summer when the debt ceiling   --  absolutely for sure this time no question about it this time  --  had to be raised or the country would go bankrupt.

John McCain Wants To Do What??

While congress, and senators vote themselves pay raises that in themselves represents more money than most Americans earn in a year, and can retire after only one term in congress with pensions of over a million dollars, the Obama Administration is working to implement a CUT in benefits for veterans. How’s that again?
Two leaders of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Carl Levin, D-Mich, and John McCain, R-Ariz.are leading the charge against our veterans. Sen. John McCain???
In order to save money (to secure politician pensions) they intend to cut health care benefits from our service men and women, many whose lives have been permanently altered due to their service to America.
As if that isn’t enough, according to Associated Press, McCain and Levin also favored creating a commission to look at military retirement benefits and make recommendations to change. No changes were proposed for hefty raises and pensions for life enjoyed by congressmen and senators.
Over a trillion dollars has been spent on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan—civil wars between tribes we should never have been in. To hit a country involved in attacking America, yes. But engaging in their civil wars, NO.

Guest Commentator Jerry Newcombe on Debt Deal

Note from Rev. Austin: The crazy debt-ceiling frenzy going on in The House on The Hill has everyone's head spinning while bearing witness to the strangest display of logic, statistics and math ever recorded. White House Wisdom has showered us with glowing examples, such as "raising the debt in order to bring down the debt." How's that again?

Since economics, debt based government, and bookkeeping were never strong points with this writer-commentator, and being no match for the White House Wizards of Monetary Muckery, the keyboard has been surrendered to TV Producer, Author, and Popular Radio Host Jerry Newcombe who puts it in a perspective that those scratching their heads might understand.

So Just Who's Happy with the Debt-Ceiling Deal?
By Jerry Newcombe

Ronald Reagan once said about runaway government expenditures, "We could say they spend like drunken sailors, but that would be unfair to drunken sailors, because the sailors are spending their own money."

Congress has now passed into law a bill to raise the debt-ceiling and supposedly cut the projected growth of government by a few trillion over the next decade. Meanwhile, the August 2 crisis of a default on our debts has been supposedly avoided. And it seems that neither side is fully happy.

On the one hand, I hear the Tea Party being given credit for helping to frame the debate. On the other hand, I hear many of the Tea Party members themselves questioning the wisdom of the whole day.

Granting a “Right” to Abortion is Far Above the Supreme Court’s Pay Grade

Recent exposes involving Planned Parenthood and its support of abortions for underage girls have ignited a political firestorm among social conservatives and breathed life into a nation-wide campaign to eliminate taxpayer funding for the “family planning” organization.

Pro-life members of Congress also have introduced legislation to bar government subsidies for abortions and – with narrow exceptions – health plans that cover abortions.  State lawmakers around the country are pushing to ban or to put strict limits on such procedures as well.

Why the omnibus spending bill died and tax cuts won

It's been an interesting week in Washington.  Democrats went along with extending the same tax cuts that they have spent the better part of the last decade criticizing, and Harry Reid had to give up his attempt to push through an omnibus spending bill that would keep the government on an Obama spending track for the next year.

So what gives?

As for the tax bill, it passed because Republicans went along with extending unemployment benefits for another thirteen months.  As almost always seems to be the case, the benefits were set to expire around Christmas, as the newly empowered GOP didn't want to deal with the PR problem. Democrats, on the other hand, knew that the Republicans will be running the house in less than a month, so they had to take what the GOP would agree to now, or risk getting less of what they want later.

Call this one a draw.

As for the spending bill, the election killed it.  Well, sort of.

VIDEO: Pete Stark doesn't think there are many limits on what Congress can do

Leave it to eighteen term Democrat Congressman Pete Stark to pretty much encapsulate what's wrong with the federal government.  That being that we have too many members of Congress such as himself who don't recognize constitutional limits on the power of Congress.

In the following video Stark is confronted by a constituent who proceeds to take him to school on the Constitution and the fact that it does indeed limit Congress to specific delegated powers, leaving others to the state governments or to the people.

For his part, Stark was faced with a pretty hostile crowd and does a poor job defending his position.

Of course, this was the same member of Congress who caught flack for telling a constituent at a previous town hall meeting that he wouldn't even bother to urinate on them, (yes, really), so maybe he was just trying to be low key.  Regardless, his statements underscore just how far beyond recognition liberals have misconstrued and perverted our Constitution.

Bart Stupak can't stand heat; to retire from kitchen

Imagine this... only three weeks after his ObamaCare vote.

In case you haven't heard, Michigan Representative Bart Stupak, the "pro-life" Democrat who initially led a group of similar Democrats in opposition to ObamaCare on the grounds that it would fund abortion - and who ultimately capitulated to Obama and Pelosi in order to pass the bill - has decided not to run for re-election this year.  He wants to "spend more time with his family".

Via CBS:

Had Stupak sought re-election, he would have faced challengers from both the left and the right backed by interest groups angered by Stupak's health care vote.

Stupak negotiated with Democratic leaders down to the eleventh hour for stricter abortion language in the health care bill, but he ultimately voted for it after President Obama agreed to sign an executive order assuring the new laws will keep taxpayer dollars from funding abortions. ...

On the left, the abortion rights group NARAL Pro-Choice America has been working to defeat Stupak and instead elect his Democratic primary challenger Connie Saltonstall.

Updated list of ObamaCare targets: Contact them as soon as possible

As we get down to the wire, the list of swing votes in the upcoming House vote on the ObamaCare legislation is coming more into focus. The list below identifies the potential "swing vote" Democrats, their most recent public position, as well as how they voted on the first "House" version of the bill last November.

All Republican members have stated that they will vote against the bill. If you are represented by them, contact them and thank them.

If you are represented by one that is listed as a "no", call and thank them and offer them encouragement to stand strong - as they are having their arms twisted relentlessly by Obama, Pelosi and Democrat leadership.

If you are represented by a someone listed as a "yes" or "undecided", call and let them know that you are opposed to the bill. Let them know that you are a registered voter in their district and that you demand that they vote "NO" on ObamaCare.

If your representative is not on this list, click here to send them a message, (you can even use this link to contact all members of Congress at once).
