House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement condemning Hamas, reaffirming America’s support for Israel, and calling to sanction those who fund terrorism:
“The ongoing rocket attacks against Israeli civilians show why America must unequivocally support Israel, condemn Hamas, and sanction those who fund terrorism. Instead of pressuring Israel to compromise with this terrorist group, Democrats should join Republicans in voting to cut off international funding for terrorists.
“That is why today, Rep. Brian Mast, a U.S. Army combat veteran who served alongside the Israel Defense Force (IDF), will push for a vote on the Palestinian International Terrorism Support Prevention Act of 2021.
“This bipartisan bill, which passed the House last Congress, would sanction foreign governments and individuals who fund Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, such as Iran. It also includes a waiver for humanitarian activities, which Democrats requested last Congress. Passing this bill would send a strong message that America will not tolerate those who fund terrorists.
“Today every member in the House will have a choice between siding with our ally or siding with a status quo that will only perpetuate the unrest. Support for Israel should remain a proud, bipartisan, but most of all, clear policy principle in Congress. As our greatest ally in the Middle East faces the most intense siege in 7 years, the House should make it clear to the world that we stand united in support of Israel.”
