Leader McCarthy Statement on DOJ Employing Counterterrorism Resources Against Parents

Washington D.C. – During testimony he delivered last month under oath, Attorney General Garland stated that counterterrorism resources were not being used to target parents. Today, because of the efforts of House Judiciary Republicans and Ranking Member Jordan, there is compelling evidence to show Garland was either ignorant of the actions of the agency he leads, or was purposely misleading Congress during his answers.

Leader McCarthy’s statement:

“In an egregious abuse of power with the potential to unfairly track Americans’ activities, President Biden’s Department of Justice is using FBI criminal and counterterrorism resources to target parents. The National School Board Association has since apologized for its letter, going as far as saying they ‘regret’ sending it.  To date, more than half of the country’s state school board associations have already distanced themselves from the national group. But despite the facts, Attorney General Garland has continued his investigations of parents at school board meetings.

“This is further proof that we have a President in the White House who is more interested in going after our own citizens, including concerned parents, than he is in going after actual threats. This raises the question that should alarm every American: if the Biden administration is using our country’s top law enforcement agency to go after parents, what are the actual threats they are ignoring?

“Attorney General Garland must return to Congress to address, under oath, in detail, the discrepancies regarding the directives he issued involving investigating America’s parents.”
