What’s Important

Biden’s Education Department Reportedly Allowing School COVID Relief Funds to Pay for Radical, Left-Wing Curricula: Top Republicans have launched an investigation into Biden’s Department of Education reportedly allowing COVID relief funds intended for learning loss remediation to pay for racially biased and other leftist programs.

Former Governor Cuomo Fails to Show Up for Nursing Home Hearing: Select Subcommittee Republicans invited former Governor Cuomo to testify about his deadly order sending COVID-positive patients to nursing homes but he failed to show up. Republicans will keep pressing for accountability.

Democrats Ignore Preventable Nursing Home Deaths: At last week’s Select Subcommittee hearing on nursing homes, House Republican Whip and Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis Ranking Member Steve Scalise (R-La.) called out Democrats for ignoring the deadly mistakes made in nursing homes by Democrat governors during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Biden Blunders

Biden’s Education Department Reportedly Allowing School COVID Relief Funds to Pay for Radical, Left-Wing Curricula: The American Rescue Plan (ARP)—a Democrat spending bill—provided more than $120 billion in Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds to enable schools to safely reopen and address learning loss caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. With regard to the funds in ARP, Senator Warnock of Georgia said, “This is one moment in which it’s very clear that public policy is quite literally a matter of life and death … more than $4 billion to the state of Georgia’s K-12 schools to ensure students, teachers, and staff stay safe and healthy, and to address learning loss.” Now it is being reported that those “life and death” funds are being used to push left leaning ideologies in public schools rather than to fix the significant academic gaps caused by COVID school closures.

House Committee on Oversight and Reform Ranking Member James Comer (R-Ky.), Committee on Education and Labor Ranking Member Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.), along with Republicans from both panels, have launched an investigation into the Department of Education reportedly allowing COVID relief funds to pay for racially biased and other leftist programs. In letters to Education Secretary Miguel Cardona, Inspector General Sandra Bruce, and top education officials in New York, Illinois, and California, the Republican lawmakers seek information about how funds are being spent to ensure taxpayer dollars are not funding radical curricula to indoctrinate America’s students.

SSOCC Update

Select Subcommittee Republicans Invite Cuomo to Testify, He Fails to Show Up: House Republican Whip and Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis Ranking Member Steve Scalise (R-La.) invited former New York Governor Cuomo to testify about his deadly order sending COVID-positive patients to nursing homes, but he failed to show up. His spokesperson claimed the invitation “got lost in the mail,” but it was emailed to Cuomo’s lawyer. When Republicans take back the House and have subpoena powers, Cuomo won’t be able to hide any longer from the accountability and transparency of congressional oversight.

Scalise & Select Subcommittee Republicans Blast Democrats for Ignoring Preventable COVID Nursing Home Deaths: At last week’s Select Subcommittee hearing on nursing homes, House Republican Whip and Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis Ranking Member Steve Scalise (R-La.) called out Democrats for ignoring the deadly mistakes made in nursing homes by Democrat governors during the COVID-19 pandemic. Whip Scalise criticized Democrats on the Select Subcommittee for prioritizing partisan politics over conducting fair oversight into the thousands of preventable nursing home deaths and subsequent attempts to cover them up.

What They’re Saying

Andrew Cuomo ducks House invite to testify about his nursing home deaths scandal (New York Post)

“Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo ignored an invitation to testify Wednesday at a congressional hearing focused on COVID-19 deaths in nursing homes. Republicans on the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis last week publicly asked Cuomo to appear to answer questions about his 2020 order requiring nursing homes to take coronavirus-positive patients. ‘We asked him to testify at this very hearing and he still to this day has not even responded,’ said Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.), who tweeted a letter addressed to Cuomo asking him to appear.”

“Scalise tore into Cuomo’s excuse in a statement to The Post, saying that Cuomo ‘continues to distort the facts and shift blame as he tries to cover up the truth about his deadly order sending COVID-positive patients into nursing homes. We sent his lawyer an electronic invitation to appear before the subcommittee, but the former governor continues to block transparency and stonewall congressional oversight,’ Scalise said.  ‘Additionally, we’ve called on Cuomo multiple times to provide information and data about his deadly ‘must admit’ order, but to date he continues covering up the truth. Americans deserve transparency and accountability, and the thousands of family members who lost loved ones deserve answers from the man who gave the deadly order forcing COVID-positive patients back into nursing homes.’ Scalise added that ‘when Republicans take back the House and have subpoena powers, Cuomo won’t be able to hide any longer from the accountability and transparency of congressional oversight.’”
