LOUISVILLE, KY – U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) released the following statement today regarding Nebraska Senator-designate Pete Ricketts:
“I am thrilled to hear that Nebraska’s outstanding former Governor Pete Ricketts is heading here to the U.S. Senate. Governor Pillen could not have found a more capable leader to take the baton from our colleague Senator Sasse and fight for the Cornhusker State.
“Senator-designate Ricketts has a proven record. He pairs sharp business savvy with a deep commitment to public service. That’s why the people of Nebraska elected and reelected him by gigantic margins and it’s how he achieved so much for the state while in office.
“As Governor, Pete fought COVID without losing common sense and struck what nonpartisan experts have graded as one of the most successful balances in the entire country between health, education, and economics. He got the biggest tax relief bill in Nebraska’s history passed and slashed the rate of growth in spending. He stood up for parents’ rights and kept commonsense civics education in his state’s schools while keeping wildly inappropriate and politicized content out.
“Senator Fischer and Senator-designate Ricketts will instantly form an extremely effective one-two punch for Nebraska in the Senate. I look forward to working closely with Pete Ricketts for years to come.”
