PATCHOGUE, NY – Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, co-chair of the House Republican Israel Caucus and one of two Jewish Republicans in Congress, issued the following statement in response to the head of the Palestinian Authority (PA), Mahmoud Abbas, accusing Israel of committing “50 holocausts”, while he attended a press conference in Germany:
“Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian Authority never earn themselves any moral ground to stand on and repeatedly launch false, slanderous accusations at Israel, but this is especially shocking and disgusting. Six million Jews and millions of others were brutally murdered during the Holocaust. There has been absolutely no equivalence to that at any time anywhere in the world. To accuse the Jewish State and the only functioning democracy in the Middle East of committing ‘50 holocausts’, while standing in Germany, is something that only someone with as little character and sense of morality as Abbas could rationalize. It was also extremely disappointing to see German Chancellor Scholz not immediately intervene to correct the record when he had the opportunity.”
