WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.), Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs and member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued the following statement in light of reports the Biden administration will release approximately $6 billion to Iran as part of a secret prisoner exchange:
“When the Obama-Biden administration paid a $400 million ransom to Iran, I warned this dangerous precedent would put a price on American lives, and here we are. 7 years later, President Biden is once again shelling out a massive $6 billion payday to the world’s largest state sponsor of terror, Iran. Unwavering U.S. sanctions have been critical in deterring the dangerous and unstable Iranian regime. Now, the fact that the Biden administration is once again bowing to the Ayatollah, attempting to renegotiate the failed Iran Nuclear Deal, and turning its back on our ally Israel endangers the safety and security of every American at home and abroad.”
