Support for Obama's Pro-Abortion Health Care Program Drops Sharply in August
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Support for ObamaCare, the national health care program President Barack Obama signed into law that contains taxpayer-funded abortions, dropped sharply in August, according to a new Kaiser Health Tracking Poll.
The results make it so one issue Democrats hoped to use to perform well in the upcoming elections will likely work against them.
The Kaiser poll has support for the pro-abortion government-run health care program dropping 7 percent to just 43 percent. Opposition rose 10 percentage points to 45 percent --- the weakest showing for ObamaCare since Kaiser's poll in May...

Bus Tour Opposing Abortion in Health Care Raises Ire of "Pro-Life" Democrats
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The bus tour the Susan B. Anthony List is sponsoring through the Midwest to highlight the way in which some "pro-life" Democrats voted for the pro-abortion health care bill is raising the ire of the House members from Indiana and Ohio. They are responding to the criticism with assertions pro-life groups aren't pro-life.
The SBA List is today continuing a 23-city bus tour, “Votes Have Consequences,” in the districts of six congressional Democrats who say they are pro-life but voted for a bill that virtually every pro-life group agrees will ultimately result in abortion funding.
Former Colorado Rep. Marilyn Musgrave is leading the tour because she says voters in the districts, some of whom will be casting ballots in key toss-up elections that could decide who controls Congress, need to know the new law represents the “largest expansion of abortion funded by our tax dollars since Roe v. Wade”....

Reid recalls Senate for border bill
The Senate will take a brief break from its summer recess Thursday and go back into session to pass a $600 million border security bill, a spokesman for Majority Leader Harry Reid said Wednesday.
Democrats and Republicans agreed to convene the unusual special session to approve the border bill that passed the House on Tuesday, as well as approve a resolution on the death of former Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska), spokesman Jim Manley said.
“This will be an extremely short session as we will just be doing these two items,” Manley said...
Half of Democrats Favor Punishing Soldiers Who Oppose Homosexuality, Survey Finds
(CNSNews.com) – A nationwide survey of 1,000 likely voters found that 59 percent of Democrats think that members of Congress should consider the opinions of homosexual advocacy groups over the opinions of top military commanders when considering a repeal of the law prohibiting homosexuality in the military.
The survey also showed that half of Democrats support penalizing soldiers opposed to homosexuality, including those who oppose it for religious reasons.
“Americans understand that the current push for sexual minorities in the military is motivated by politics, not principle,” Elaine Donnelly, president of the Center for Military Readiness, said in a statement about the poll results on Tuesday...

Waters faces ethics charge
The House ethics committee will accuse Rep. Maxine Waters of breaking the chamber's rules after a year-long investigation into allegations she sought the Treasury Department's help for a bank in which her husband was invested, the committee said Monday.
The announcement was made less than a week after the committee announced 13 ethics charges against Rep. Charles B. Rangel, and threatens to dog Democrats in the run-up to November's elections. With two senior black lawmakers facing charges, it has raised questions about whether black House members are being targeted by ethics officials.
Ms. Waters, a California Democrat in her 10th term in Congress, challenged the finding, saying she did not benefit from her advocacy. She said she's opted for a public hearing to try to clear her name...

House Democrats head for a thumping at the polls
Democratic spin doctors have set out how their side is going to hold onto a majority in the House. They'll capture four at-risk Republican seats, hold half of the next 30 or so Democratic at-risk seats, and avoid significant losses on target seats lower on the list.
That's one plausible scenario. The shift of opinion away from Democrats so evident in the polls could turn out to be illusory. The widely held assumption that Republicans will turn out in greater numbers than Democrats could prove wrong.
Democratic candidates do indeed have a money advantage in many close races, and their campaign committee has more cash than its Republican counterpart...

'It's about time' for resolution on Rangel
Democrats continue to face issues ranging from President Obama's declining popularity to Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich's public trail, but now the ongoing investigation into New York Representative Charles Rangel's ethics violations has the party embattled even more.
For the past two years, the House Ethics Committee has investigated Rangel for tax fraud and other allegations since the New York representative relinquished the coveted chairmanship of the House Ways and Means Committee after being pressured by Democrats to resign.
"To my family, friends and constituents who have been there for me throughout, I can only say without dispute that I won't let you down," the 20-term congressman stated in Harlem. "Thank God the report is complete, and...we will do like anything else when we discuss the findings"...

Democrats Fail to Stop Filibuster Against DISCLOSE Act Pro-Life Groups Oppose
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Democrats failed on Tuesday to get enough votes to stop a republican filibuster against the DISCLOSE Act. That's the campaign finance reform bill pro-life groups oppose because they say it would place stringent limits on their ability to communicate to the public about legislation and elections.
Senate Republicans are filibustering the legislation and Democrats held a cloture vote this afternoon where they need 60 votes to be able to stop the filibuster and move towards a vote on the bill itself.
However, they were unable to peel off any Republicans to support the cloture vote and lost by a 57-41 margin....

Dem Base Not Optimistic on Economy
Seemingly convinced that the Obama administration has not done enough to improve the country's economic outlook, a survey of liberals and progressives show a majority believe the nation is now in the midst of a serious long-term economic decline.
The straw poll from this weekend's Netroots Nation convention of activists reveals that 53% of those surveyed believe the current economic difficulties will last for the foreseeable future. Only 35% think a positive correction is right around the corner.
In a video statement played at the convention Saturday, President Obama talked about the timing of an economic recovery that seems to match up with these numbers. "It took years to get here," Obama said. "It will take time to get us out"....

Abortion returns to campaign forefront
An Obama administration effort to rein in states treading toward using new health care laws to fund abortions - and provide political cover for pro-life Democrats - reignited a politically explosive issue that Republicans and pro-life activists are eager to exploit in the lead-up to the fall midterm elections.
Seizing on a Health and Human Services Department announcement last week that states must comply with a White House executive order that prohibits most abortion coverage in government-backed insurance pools, anti-abortion groups and Republicans see more ammunition in their effort to rally pro-life voters to the polls.
"You cannot exchange 30 years of pro-life protections in the law for a piece of paper signed by the president of the United States," said Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana, chairman of the House Republican Conference...
