Congressman Joe Wilson Leads Introduction of the United States-Israel Future of Warfare Act of 2023

Washington, D.C. – Representative Joe Wilson (R-SC), senior member of the House Armed Services Committee, joins Representatives Jared Golden (D-ME), Doug Lamborn (R-CO), Jason Crow (D-CO), Michael Turner (R-OH), and Pat Ryan (D-NY) in introducing the United States-Israel Future of Warfare Act of 2023.

The U.S. and Israel have long experienced a strong and mutually beneficial relationship based on shared values and security interests, while also promoting peace and regional stability.

In order to meet emerging defense challenges, this bill would establish a $50 million fund for each of fiscal years 2024 through 2028 to further support defense collaboration between the two countries in the area of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, automation, cybersecurity, and directed energy.

“The United States and Israel face a number of common, evolving threats. It is critical that we work together strategically to develop joint defense technologies to ensure we are on the cutting edge of research and development, and a step ahead of our adversaries. I am grateful to introduce this bipartisan legislation to further this objective with the establishment of this fund which will benefit both countries,” said Rep. Wilson.

“Israel is one of our closest allies, and the US-Israeli defense partnership is an important component of our national security and a vital source of stability in the Middle East,” said Rep. Golden. “The US-Israel Future of Warfare Fund will help both our nations to benefit from one another’s knowledge and experience to counter current and future threats in a rapidly changing strategic environment. I’m proud to work with my colleagues in a bipartisan manner on this important issue.”

“As adversaries of our two countries rally at an increasingly hostile and capable pace, the U.S.-Israel Future of Warfare Act affirms that deeper collaboration on advanced defense technologies is imperative. I am very pleased to co-lead this bipartisan legislation to strengthen Israel’s ability to defend itself and develop technologies that will save lives and prevent conflict escalation in the Middle East,” said Rep. Lamborn.

“As a former army ranger, I understand the importance of having a strong working relationship with partner nations, and Israel is one of our strongest,” said Rep. Crow. “This bill would strengthen our defense partnership with Israel by investing in emerging technologies to counter future threats to regional and national security. By working together, we will be better equipped to face these challenges.”

“Israel will always be our greatest ally in the Middle East. I am proud to partner with Representatives Wilson, Lamborn, Golden, Crow, and Ryan to introduce this forward-thinking legislation strengthening our relationship with Israel. The US-Israel Future of Warfare Act of 2023 would create a fund for joint collaboration on developing cutting-edge technology that keeps Americans and Israelis safe from danger,” said Rep. Turner, a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee.

“As a former Army intelligence officer, I know firsthand that when Israel and the United States work collaboratively on defense initiatives, the world is a safer place,” said Rep. Ryan. “I’m proud to join this bipartisan coalition of lawmakers in introducing the US-Israel Future of Warfare Act of 2023 to ensure that both countries are prepared to combat emerging national security threats and position ourselves proactively for the realities of 21st century warfare.”
