What’s Important  Speaker Pelosi Continues to Keep the People’s House Closed: For over 720 days, the People’s House has been closed to the American people under Speaker Pelosi’s authoritarian rule. Democrats’ Science™ Hasn’t Changed, Just Their Poll Numbers: Impact Research, a Democrat polling firm where President Biden’s pollster works, released a memo on February 24, 2022, saying “most Americans have personally moved out of crisis mode” and “voters are overwhelmingly more worried about learning loss than kids getting covid.” Biden’s Nursing Home Plan Doesn’t Hold Democrat Governors Accountable: Last week, President Biden announced plans to increase nursing home staffing and oversight but has no plans to hold the Democrat governors accountable who ordered COVID-19 positive patients to nursing homes. Crisis CornerSpeaker Pelosi Continues to Keep the People’s House Closed: For over 720 days, the People’s House has been closed to the American people under Speaker Pelosi’s authoritarian rule. This far exceeds the amount of time of any prior closure over the course of the Capitol’s more than 200-year history. Across the country, places have reopened, including businesses, stadiums, museums, and nearly every single statehouse. The United States Senate, on the opposite side of the same building, first resumed limited tours months ago and made the decision to further expand access to tours later this month, yet the People’s House remains closed. And during his State of the Union address, the President himself said “COVID-19 need no longer control our lives” before a crowd of hundreds of people in the House Chamber. Last week, House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.), House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), and Republican Members of the Committee on House Administration – Ranking Member Rodney Davis (R-Ill.), Representative Bryan Steil (R-Wis.), and Representative Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.) – introduced a House Resolution to reopen the United States Capitol and House of Representatives to the public. To truly serve the American people, we must make the Capitol accessible to the public.  Biden BlundersBiden’s Nursing Home Plan Doesn’t Hold Democrat Governors Accountable: Last week, President Biden announced plans to increase nursing home staffing and oversight but has no plans to hold the Democrat governors accountable who ordered COVID-19 positive patients to nursing homes. Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, California Governor Gavin Newsom, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, and Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf all ignored federal protocols and forced nursing homes to take in COVID-positive patients as part of their pandemic response. Even worse, Cuomo intentionally tried to cover up the true death toll resulting from his mandate. Where is the justice for nursing home victims and their grieving families?  Democrat Hypocrisy AlertDemocrats’ Science™ Hasn’t Changed, Just Their Poll Numbers: Impact Research, a Democrat polling firm where President Biden’s pollster works, released a memo on February 24, 2022, saying “most Americans have personally moved out of crisis mode” and “voters are overwhelmingly more worried about learning loss than kids getting covid.” This memo was released just a day before the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) loosened its masking guidance, which then triggered Biden’s State of the Union address to be mask-free. As Democrat poll numbers are tanking, Democrats have had an epiphany of political science, not medical science.  This Week in SSOCCSelect Subcommittee Republicans Blast Democrats’ COVID Policies’ Negative Impacts on Children: At last week’s hearing on the childcare crisis resulting from Democrat lockdowns, House Republican Whip and Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis Ranking Member Steve Scalise (R-La.) highlighted students’ declining mental health and academic performance because of Democrat-led lockdowns and mandates. Whip Scalise slammed President Biden for caving to teachers union bosses on whether students should be wearing masks in the classroom. Additionally, Whip Scalise called out the CDC’s harmful and inconsistent guidelines for children in schools across the country and President Biden for breaking his promise to “follow the science” and “shut down the virus.” What They’re SayingSpeech Therapy Shows the Difficult Tradeoffs of Wearing Masks (The Atlantic)“Americans have been arguing about pandemic restrictions for two years, and the debate is particularly fraught among parents of small children, for good reasons. While measures such as masking and isolation mean temporary discomfort or inconvenience for most people, their consequences for still-developing young children are more mysterious, and possibly more significant and lasting … The consequences of leaving speech and language disorders untreated can be profound, Diane Paul, the director of clinical issues in speech-language pathology at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, told me. Children struggling to express themselves can get frustrated, which can lead to behavioral challenges, and they may have trouble making friends. Many kids with speech disorders struggle to learn to read, but ‘language becomes a medium through which we learn everything later in school,’ Alex Levine, a speech-language pathologist at the Learning and Development Center at the Child Mind Institute, told me. And the longer you wait to address a speech or language issue, the harder it is to do so.” School Is Back in Person, but the Five-Day School Week Often Isn’t (NYT)“Last month, at the height of the Omicron wave, one quarter of U.S. schoolchildren missed more than a week of in-person learning, according to a national survey of 148,400 parents by The New York Times and the survey and data firm Dynata. The majority of students were home at least three days, and nearly one in 10 were out for half the month or more. The disruptions were spread across the country, with no region spared. The survey revealed more widespread interruptions than other recent measurements have suggested. It demonstrates the degree to which unexpected classroom closures have upended children’s education and parents’ routines, even two years into the pandemic.” GOP presses Pelosi to reopen House to the public, end COVID-19 rules that keep out citizens (Washington Times)“House Republicans have introduced a resolution to reopen the U.S. Capitol to the public, including reopening the House gallery where visitors can observe lawmaking in action. They said that businesses, stadiums, museums and nearly every statehouse across the country have reopened to the public, even as Speaker Nancy Pelosi keeps the citizenry out of the House. ‘It has been 719 days since Speaker Pelosi closed the People’s House to the public. This far exceeds the amount of time of any prior closure over the course of the Capitol’s more than 200-year history,’ the lawmakers wrote in a joint statement late Wednesday.” Member MentionsHouse Republican Whip and Select Subcommittee Ranking Member Steve Scalise (R-La.blasts Democrats’ authoritarian COVID mandates.
