WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, following the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) release from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Senator Rick Scott released the below statement highlighting the need to implement substantive fiscal reforms to end the ongoing inflation crisis fueled by the Biden administration’s reckless tax-and-spend agenda. June’s CPI data shows that there has been significant inflation nearly every month of Biden’s presidency. Year over year consumer prices increased 9.1% in June, a 41-year high.
Senator Rick Scott said, “Joe Biden’s raging inflation crisis is a horrible tax on every American family, and today’s CPI report shows that tax just went up AGAIN. It is unacceptable that hardworking families in Florida are paying the price for Biden’s incompetence, and now he wants them to fork over even more of their money by raising their taxes. That’s right, as inflation hits 9.1% Joe Biden and the heartless Democrats in Congress are answering a historic crisis of high prices with tax hikes. It’s hard to believe, but it’s true, and their brainless plan will only drive America further into the financial hole Biden started digging his first day in office. I’ve heard from retirees having to go back to work because their social security checks aren’t cutting it, moms and dads getting second jobs to put food on the table and people who are turning to food banks for the first time in their lives. It’s all because of Joe Biden’s complete incompetence and obsession with reckless spending. Biden has failed American families in almost every way imaginable and it’s time for him to end the madness and resign.”
According to today’s CPI release, price increases over the year include:
- Gasoline: +59.9%
- Eggs: +33.1%
- Butter: +26.3%
- Chicken: +18.6%
- Lunchmeat: +18.0%
- Milk: +16.4%
- Baby Food: +14.0%
- Food at Home: +12.2%
